Mission

WeCAN is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to help provide basic human services in a respectful manner to individuals and families in our service area, and to work with them to enhance family stability and self-sufficiency.

The organization’s purpose is to address the human service needs by delivering emergency service, sharing information, developing cooperative efforts, and making referrals to other agencies as may be appropriate. WeCAN serves as a resource and catalyst for the provision of human services in the area by identifying unmet human service needs and developing solutions that address those needs, including information and referral services.

Western Communities Action Network (WeCAN) is all about neighbors helping neighbors. In 2008, WeCAN helped 1637 individiduals. WeCAN’s programs are designed to help families maintain stability and self sufficiency. Last year WeCAN provided emergency assistance to 186 families. Family Support programs, including Adopt-a-Family, Ready to Learn , and the Birthday Shelf, helped 351 families. WeCAN’s incredible Meals on Wheels volunteers delivered 8,672 hot meals.

WeCAN is a non-profit human services agency funded by community donations, United Way, Hennepin County contracts, and Foundations. WeCAN also receives funds from the Community Action Partnership for Suburban Hennepin, Wright-Hennepin Co-op and EFSP. During this difficult economic time, WeCAN appreciates the support of all of its donors to enable it to continue to provide assistance to neighbors in need in our communities.
